Waiting and waiting

It was a local holiday, the Fiesta de la Cruz in Granada (Spain). A lot of merry people were out on the streets celebrating, laughing, talking, meeting friends.

And there was this girl all dressed up and ready to party standing in front of the Post Office, waiting and waiting. Now and then she looked at her watch, shifted from one leg to another while her face got sadder and sadder.

I had arrived early at the same place, obviously the usual meeting place in town, and watched the scene making me feel for the girl. When my friend arrived (I had not seen her for some seven years), we were very happy to renew our friendship and immediately started to chat. She invited me to tea and off we went.

Later that evening I remembered the girl and wondered if her date had ever arrived.
